Most of us grab a coffee to give us a boost of energy in the morning and to get us out of that after noon slump, but there is better fuel to energize you!

Let’s start with one of my favourites:  These are an all natural fast food!  They are a carbohydrate which gives your body energy as well they are high in natural sugar so you get an immediate boost by eating a banana.  And it doesn’t get much easier than tossing a banana in your backpack or lunch bag to enjoy in the afternoon, or anytime that you need it! If bananas aren’t your favourite then strawberries and apples have a very similar effect of boosting energy. Such an easy snack to grab!

Another great snack for so many reasons but especially for energy is Nuts.  They have an abundance of proteins, carbs and healthy fats. These nutrients can provide you with a slow release of energy during the day.  As well, they are full of vitamins and minerals that help increase energy production and decrease exhaustion!  Again these are the ultimate fast food!  You can have little baggies of these in the cupboard ready to go so you can just grab one and toss it in your bag for the day, or have a little stash of them in your vehicle or desk drawer when you are needing a pick me up!

Another energizing food group is Seeds like quinoa, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, flax and chia they’re full of Omega 3’s as well as fibre which gives you a steady release of energy through out your day.  And you can add seeds to almost any meal, or add it to your little stash of nuts to make a great trail mix!

These last two are not food but they are amazing fuel for energy:

Green Tea: Green tea has been long known for all of it’s many health benefits!  The caffeine in green tea boosts energy and as a bonus it increases your focus, alertness and mental concentration, all things we are often in need of by the time about 3 pm rolls around.  The great thing with green tea you get the benefits without the shakes or jitters that can come with other drinks that are high in caffeine.

And lastly if you know that you just aren’t getting enough of these good quality foods to boost your energy it’s a really good idea to take a Pure quality Super B supplement.  Even though I eat these high energy foods regularly, I notice a big increase in my energy when I take my super B!!
