I want to help you reach your accomplishments! So today I want to talk to you about something I’ve seen work in my own life as well as many many others use this to reach their goals.
Here’s an example of a goal or resolution that a lot of people might say: This year I’m going to get healthy! That is a great aspiration, but it’s very vague and what does that even mean to you? A much more effective way of setting a goal is to make it a SMART goal.
SMART is simply an acronym. For a goal that is Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Timed. Let’s use our example of “This year I’m going to get healthy!” To change that into a smart goal would be this: By Dec. 30th, 2020 I am going to drop 50 lbs of excess body fat. That sounds much different than “I just want to get healthy this year.”
You are saying specifically what you want to accomplish, drop excess body fat, you are making it measurable by saying exactly how much you want to drop…50 lbs.
That’s specific and measurable.
Attainable is simple, it’s being sure that your goal is something that you actually can reach if you work at. Not something that is so far out that you could never possibly reach it in a year.
As far as relevant for your goal, it needs to be something that applies to you. A goal that you desire, that applies to your life, something you actually want to accomplish.
Finally, you need to have a specific time on your goal. When do you want to accomplish this goal by. For example by Dec. 30th 2020 I am going to drop 50lbs of excess body fat. That gives you the exact date that you want to have that accomplished by. That way you know your end date and you can break that down into smaller goals to achieve along the way so that you can track your progress to be sure that you will reach your goal by the date you desire.
Putting a time line on your goal would help beat procrastination that might try to set in.
You are much much more likely to achieve your goals and resolutions for this year if you make them SMART goals. Specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and timed. Do this and you will be well on your way to accomplishing all you hope to this year!
